I still like it, but I see how much better it could have been with trailers like the OP. And then there was that whole side-plot with the SSgt getting a brother of the Marine he's now in charge of killed. They obviously did enough research to get the gear, camo, weapons, aircraft, and rankings right, but when it came to shit they say, it really falls off(you want a good representation, watch Generation Kill). They did a good job of building the suspense up to the first contact between us and them. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed the action scenes. I hadn't watched the trailers so I had nothing to be excited about, so there was no disappointment for it being more of an action movie than what the trailer was suggesting. Overall I enjoyed it as just an alien action flick. This movie had both good and bad elements. Usually with modern war films, I subconsciously dissect every part involving the military because it's usually pretty awful.
I was in the USMC when this film came out.
